Non-tidal wetlands account for most of the wetlands of the United States and are found throughout the country. Peatlands have organic soils comprised of slowly decaying leaves, stems and other dead plant material. They are ponded or the water table is very close to the surface throughout growing season, which slows the decay process and allows.   Tidal freshwater wetlands (TFW) are situated in the upper estuary in a zone bordered upstream by the nontidal river and downstream by the oligohaline region. Here, discharge of freshwater from the river and the daily tidal pulse from the sea combine to create conditions where TFW develop. TFW are often located where human population density is high, which has led to wetland degradation Cited by: In the Yellow Sea region of East Asia, tidal wetlands are the frontline ecosystem protecting a coastal population of more than 60 million people from storms and sea‐level rise. However, unprecedented coastal development has led to growing concern about the status of these by:

Tidal marshes experience many overlapping persistent cycles, including diurnal and semi-diurnal tides, day-night temperature fluctuations, spring-neap tides, seasonal vegetation growth and decay, upland runoff.

Tidal wetlands are habitats dominated by a major type of vegetation, usually with underlying mud owing to their sheltered nature, and usually tolerant of brackish conditions.
